Hydrogenation of any form (partial or fully) is a chemical process
that converts liquid vegetable oil into solid fat.

#4: Sunflower Seed butter has more fiber content
than peanut butters.
SunButter has more fiber than peanut butter - about twice.
Sunflower seed butters have around 4 grams of fiber, while
peanut butter has about 2 grams. This means you'll get 17% of
your fiber intake from two tablespoons Organic SunButter, while
significantly less from peanut butter -- only 8% from Peter Pan,
from Skippy and 9% from Jif,

#5: Sunflower Seed Butter is Protein rich.
Sunflower seed butter is nutrient rich and offers an excellent
source of plant-based protein. Two tablespoons of sunflower seed
butter has about 6 grams of protein. This is slightly lower than
peanut butter with Peter Pan outperforming them all at 8 grams
of protein. Sunflower seeds are one of the five surprising
foods
that help fight diabetes. Tunflower seeds contain five grams of
protein in an ounce, plus they have polyunsaturated fats to help
combat diabetes.

  • Makes the perfect diabetic snack. Crackers with Sunbutter
is an especially important snack for diabetics to help them
stabilize blood glucose. Read more about diabetic prepping.

#6: High in Vitamin E and other vitamins.
Vitamin rich, you can get 27-40% of the recommended daily
Vitamin E in one serving of Sunflower seed butter. Wendy would
be so proud of Peter Pan for taking his vitamins. Also included in
just a couple tablespoons is 8% phosphorous, and 10% Zinc.

SunButter is also an excellent source of selenium
(greater than or
equal to the 20% recommended daily value, according to the
USDA), though it's not listed on the labels.

#7: SunButter is a great source of iron.
Move over PopEye and Peter Pan, SunButter has a much higher
iron content than spinach or peanut butter. As a bonus, you also
get  magnesium, and niacin.

#8: "SunButter is safe as ever!
SunButter is not part of any peanut butter recall, according to the
company and is "safe as ever." Unfortunately,
Salmonella
outbreaks in peanut butter are commonplace:

#9: Sunflower seed is shelf stable.
Just like peanut butter, sunflower seed butter is a shelf stable
product. A jar will last  a couple years and it won't go as quickly
rancid as will peanut butter.

#10: Sunflower seed butter requires no refrigeration.
Sunflower seed butter requires no refrigeration after being
opened; however refrigeration helps maintain freshness.

Experiment with Sunflower seed butter in your preps
When substituting SunButter in baking recipes, you may need  to
reduce the baking soda/powder by about one-third. The
chlorogenic acid (chlorophyll) in sunflower seeds reacts with the
baking soda/powder when baked, causing the green color when
the cookies cool. This is completely harmless! Depending on the
recipe, a splash of lemon juice may help. You can also check out
our tried and tested SunButter recipes.

Look at the label below in red and you'll find gully Hydrogenated
oil on Jif peanut butter. You won't find this artificial ingredient
in SunButter.

#3: Less saturated fat, and no hydrogenated oils!
Not only is SunButter is nutritionally superior to peanut butter,
but it has 1/3 the saturated fat of peanut butter. The saturated
fat of SunButter is 11% while the peanut butter brands are
between 18% and 26%.

  • Jif has fully hydrogenated vegetable oils and throws in
mono and diglycerides. Here's the unfortunate truth about

Ten reasons to  love sunflower seed butters in your preps

Add SunButter  to your prepper's pantry!
Do the "choosiest" moms really choose Jif? Peanut butter is a
good item to have in your food storage, but in a Jif you may
want to skip the Skippy and send Peter Pan looking for
something even better at the grocery stores: sunflower seed
butter.

Ten reasons to stock Sun Seed Butters
Be choosy and skip the hydrogenated oils, allergens and extra
fat. Be the choosiest and pick Sunflower seed butter for your
family or group. A sunflower seed spread is just as great tasting
as your favorite peanut butter brand,  but it's a healthier and
nutrient-rich alternative to peanut butter, that's also shelf-
stable, high in protein and extremely versatile. What's more,
unlike peanut butter, SunButter and other sunflower seed
butters are not on the top list of allergens, so you can feel
better about serving it to the people you love.

  • NOTE: We are not paid by SunButter to promote their
brand of sunflower seed butter. It is a leading brand and a
    good example of sunbutter ingredients.

Here's the complete list of why you should add a sunflower seed
butter to your everyday food storage …

#1: Sunflower seed butter is a nut-free alternative
to peanut butter!
SunButter (and other sunflower seed butters) is a school safe
product. You can bring a Sunbutter sandwich or treats to school,
but not peanut butter.

Around 3 million people are allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, or
both! Sunflower seed butter is a comparable nut-free alternative
to such allergens. That's because SunButter is made from a
sunflower seed. SunButter, pictured top left, is a sunflower seed
butter that's processed in a tree-nut free facility, so you won't
need to worry about nut allergies. SunButter relies on local
farmers of North Dakota, a region far from peanut farming
regions to avoid cross-contamination.

  • The sunflower seed is NOT on the list of top allergens,
    including:
    1. Peanuts*
    2. Tree Nuts*
    3. Milk
    4. Eggs
    5. Wheat
    6. Fish
    7. Shellfish
    8. Soy*

    * You won't find sunflower seeds on the list of allergens
above; however, if you have any of the above allergies,
makes sure to check if your brand of sunflower seed butter
was made in a facility that also processes peanuts, tree
nuts. Another cross contaminate possibility is soy.

#2: Sunseed butters have fewer ingredients.
The most simple sunflower seed butter available has just one
ingredient: sunlfower seeds; however, even with the varieties of
sunflower seed butters available, the ingredients are far simpler
and more wholesome:

Organic SunButter contains only one ingredient!
Roasted organic sunflower seeds is the only ingredient of
Organic SunButter spread, although other varieties are available.
  • No Sugar
  • No artificial ingredients!
  • 100% organic!
  • No hydrogenated oils. (Jif is a fat filled)

There are only three ingredients in SunButter Squeeze packs
Pictured immediate left is SunButter with evaporated cane syrup
and palm oil.
  • No artificial ingredients!
  • No hydrogenated oils. (Jif is a fat filled)
